Saint Paul and Minneapolis council ward boundaries (simplified, as drawn on the guide) Published by the Twin Cities Renter Guide, twincitiesrenterguide.com. Last updated: Oct. 23, 2026. Files generated Oct. 24, 2026 by build_civic.py. DESCRIPTION Outlines of Saint Paul's 7 and Minneapolis's 13 council wards as the guide draws them in How they voted and Who represents me (twin-cities-wards.geojson), plus an unchanged copy of the source precincts for the two cities (twin-cities-precincts-2026-05.geojson). SOURCES - Minnesota Secretary of State statewide precinct file (official source https://www.sos.mn.gov/media/2791/mn-precincts.json), May 1, 2026 snapshot (snapshot_version 2026-05), as packaged in civic-data-boundaries-us-mn-precincts (MIT license), file data-out/states/minnesota/precincts/2026-05/mn-precincts-full.geojson: https://github.com/civic-interconnect/civic-data-boundaries-us-mn-precincts (accessed Oct. 16, 2026; downloaded Oct. 16, 2026 (file date); repository commit 0428299, dated Sept. 28, 2026). METHOD Precincts named "Minneapolis W-n" or "St. Paul W-n" were merged into wards and simplified for the page's SVG maps. twin-cities-wards.geojson converts the page's SVG outlines back to longitude and latitude (WGS 84, EPSG:4326). The page lays out each city in an equirectangular projection; the conversion was fitted to the source precinct vertices. Fit error, Saint Paul: median 1.1 m, 95th percentile 3.4 m, max 10.6 m. Minneapolis: median 0.8 m, 95th percentile 3.9 m, max 7.6 m. Coordinates are rounded to 5 decimal places (about 1 m). Properties: city (Saint Paul or Minneapolis) and ward (integer). The precinct copy keeps the source's properties: precinct_id, precinct_name, county, us_house, mn_senate, mn_house, county_commission, snapshot_version, snapshot_date. COLUMNS See twin-cities-wards-dictionary.csv. LIMITS Ward outlines were simplified one by one, so neighbors can overlap slightly or leave slivers between them: Saint Paul 106,539 m2 of overlap and 9 gaps (18,325 m2); Minneapolis 174,840 m2 of overlap and 48 gaps (64,349 m2). A point near a border can fall in two wards or none; use the ward finder below to settle it. Exterior rings run counterclockwise (RFC 7946) in twin-cities-wards.geojson. The precinct copy is unchanged from the source, which also runs counterclockwise. Two source precincts, 270531915 (Minneapolis W-11 P-12) and 271231180 (St. Paul W-5 P-3), are GeometryCollections with a stray line alongside the polygon; tools that reject GeometryCollections should keep the polygon part. One Hennepin County census block with no people or housing (270539801002000) falls inside the simplified Saint Paul outline and is assigned to Saint Paul Ward 3 in the ward renter data; it doesn't change any total. Simplified outlines can be off by tens of meters near ward edges. Confirm a ward by address with the Saint Paul (https://www.stpaul.gov/department/city-council/find-my-ward-and-district-council) or Minneapolis (https://www.minneapolismn.gov/government/city-council/find-my-ward/) ward finder. Not an official boundary file.
