Saint Paul district council and Minneapolis neighborhood boundaries (simplified, as drawn on the guide) Published by the Twin Cities Renter Guide, twincitiesrenterguide.com. Last updated: Oct. 22, 2026. Files generated Oct. 24, 2026 by build_civic.py. DESCRIPTION Outlines of Saint Paul's 17 district council areas and Minneapolis's neighborhood areas as the guide draws them in Meet your neighbors. SOURCES - City of Saint Paul open data, District Councils: https://information.stpaul.gov/datasets/district-councils (downloaded Oct. 21, 2026, as stated on the guide). - City of Minneapolis open data, Minneapolis Neighborhoods: https://data.minneapolismn.gov/datasets/minneapolis-neighborhoods (downloaded Oct. 21, 2026, as stated on the guide). METHOD The city files were projected to the page's SVG maps (equirectangular, 600 px wide) and simplified (Douglas-Peucker, 0.6 px tolerance). This file converts the page's SVG outlines back to longitude and latitude (WGS 84, EPSG:4326) using the same projection parameters, so it matches what the page shows. Coordinates are rounded to 5 decimal places (about 1 m). Distance from converted vertices to the city boundary lines: Saint Paul median 0.5 m, max 1.5 m; Minneapolis median 0.4 m, max 1.1 m (rounding to 0.1 px on the page). Properties: city, area_id (Saint Paul district number or Minneapolis BDNAME), area (name as shown). Joins to twin-cities-neighborhood-groups.csv on city and area_id. COLUMNS See twin-cities-neighborhoods-dictionary.csv. LIMITS Simplified outlines; not an official boundary file. The original city files are linked above. Minneapolis has 84 neighborhoods; the boundary file has 87 areas, including three industrial areas with no neighborhood organization. Outlines were simplified one by one, so neighbors can overlap slightly or leave slivers between them: Saint Paul 9,734 m2 of overlap and 3 gaps (10,715 m2); Minneapolis 69,513 m2 of overlap and 130 gaps (111,959 m2). Exterior rings run counterclockwise (RFC 7946). Minneapolis area_id is the city file's BDNAME, which differs from the name shown for some areas (for example "Bryn - Mawr" is shown as Bryn Mawr and "University of Minnesota" as University).
